After bloocurdling details were revealed in the abduction, rape, and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua, and sexual assault of a young girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao, celebrities including Priyanka Chopra and Ekta Kapoor, urged their fans and followers to attend a protest march in Mumbai.

After bloocurdling details were revealed in the abduction, rape, and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua, and sexual assault of a young girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao, celebrities including Priyanka Chopra and Ekta Kapoor, urged their fans and followers to attend a protest march at Mumbai’s Carter Road Promenade and Amphitheatre in order to demand justice for the victims. The protest is ‘apolitical and peaceful,’ as the poster read while particiapnts have been requested to refrain from carrying political symbols and banners.

“If you can make it, please do. We all agree that armchair activism isn’t enough… There is strength in numbers and in unity… ,” Priyanka wrote in her post on Twitter that has been retweeted almost 1500 times while her followers flooded the comments section with posters of the victim, saying that what has happened with the minor and the young girl is nothing short of heinious. Ekta Kapoor, as well, requested her followers to attend: “For humanity, for justice.”

Celebrity hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani is one of the organisers of the protest march and also tweeted the permission letter that her group received for it. Angry tweets poured in from celebrities including Sonam Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan and Farhan Akhtar earlier this week after details of the cases were made available.

Protest march in Mumbai in regards to Kathua Rape Case

The charge sheet names Sanji Ram, the caretaker of the Devisthan, a small temple in Rassana village in Kathua, as the mastermind behind the abduction, rape, and killing. Sanji Ram’s son Vishal Jangotra alias ‘Shamma’, his nephew, a juvenile, and his friend Parvesh Kumar alias Mannu have been named as co-conspirators. Kuldeep Singh Sengar was sent to CBI custody for seven days by a special CBI court in Lucknow while the victim’s medical examination was conducted at a hospital on April 14.
