Australian captain Steve Smith’s emotional video, where he confesses his mistake and renders a rather emotional apology in the ball tampering case has gone viral. Fans and cricketers all across the globe have come strongly against the way Steve Smith was handled and summoned like a hardened criminal by the cops.

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan was one of those who was sympathetic of Australian cricketer Steve Smith.

He took to Twitter to share his thoughts over Steve Smith

The actor took to his micro-blogging page to share his thoughts after he watched Steve crying on national television. While Indian cricketers and fans alike wanted the miscreants to be punished for not honouring the rules of the gentleman’s game, everybody felt that the treatment meted out to Steve Smith was a little too harsh.

The October hero wrote onhis Twitter page about Australian cricketer Steve Smith, who was been banned for a year by the Cricket Australia over ball-tampering: “Watching Steven Smith apologise and look broken is very sad. I’m sure the fans will forgive him. He looks beyond remorseful. I hope and pray he will come out of this ordeal a better cricketer. The mental the emotional trauma I’m sure is bigger then any ban.”

Smith’s deputy David Warner also stepped down as vice-captain

Smith stepped down as Australia captain for the remainder of the ongoing third Test against South Africa and was penalised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on March 25 in the wake of the ball-tampering controversy.  Wicketkeeper Tim Paine acted as captain at Newlands, with both Smith and Warner taking the field on March 25.
