Wealth of major Rajya Sabha candidates from Gujrat saw a considerable increase in the past few years. Union I&B and textile minister Smriti Irani has assets of almost Rs.8.88 Cr and claims of her incomplete B.com course. On the other hand, BJP National President , Amit Shah ‘s asset values have grown by 300% . The most imported fact to be considered here is that all the growth in asset values took place from 2012-2017.
Amit Shah’s Asset values:
- BJP national president Amit Shah saw his movable assets increase from Rs. 1.90 Cr to Rs. 19 Cr.
- In his affidavit, Shah has stated ancestral movable property worth Rs.20.38 cr.
- Shah’s movable and immovable (including his wife) assets increased by about 300% from2012.
- His assets (movable and immovable) which were worth rs.8.54 Cr in 2012 are now worth Rs. 34.31 Cr.
Smriti Irani’s Assets discrepancy in affidavit:
- The movable and immovable assets of Smriti Irani (including her husband’s) in 2014 were worth Rs. 4.91 Cr and their values have increased to Rs. 8.88 Cr , an 805 increase from 2014-2017.
- While the value of Smriti’s assets did not increase significantly ,her husband Zubin’s asset value increased considerably.
- The report also revealed that Smriti Irani for the first time appeared to acknowledge her affidavit in 2004 about her educational qualification was false.
- While unsuccessfully contesting for the Lok Sabha in 2004, she had claimed to have done her B.A in 1996 from Delhi University.
- But when she filed her nomination for the Rajya Sabha in 2012, she claimed that she had done her B.Com part I in 1994.
- The discrepancy in her affidavit, an offence under the law, had led to an election petition and a complaint to the court.
- But while the complaints remain pending, have set the record straight in the latest affidavit by acknowledging that she had not completed B.Com.
