Cyclone Fani Aftermath: Death Toll rises to 41, more than 10 Million Trees Uprooted in Odisha.

 

Cyclone Fani wrecked havoc in Odisha after it made a landfall in Puri on May 3.

The death toll due to the severe cyclonic storm jumped to 41 on Wednesday, the state government informed.

According to reports, over 10 million trees were uprooted and damaged due to the severe cyclone.

 

Reports inform that more than 1.4 crore people across the state have been impacted by the cyclone.

 

Reports inform that apart from water supply, lack of power supply has also paralysed filling stations, banking service, health services in Odisha.

According to a reports, the preliminary reports informed that Fani damaged at least two million trees in Bhubaneswar alone followed by Puri, Khurda and other divisions.

 

Cyclone Fani which is pronounced “Foni” triggered heavy rains in parts of Odisha, north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry. Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Sandip Tripathy was quoted in the report saying around 50 per cent trees have been uprooted and the Balukhanda sanctuary,  home to around 90 lakh trees, has also been severely impacted by the cyclone.

Meanwhile, the office of Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) said that the livestock casualty number stands at 21,769,98.

 

People across the state have been struggling for electricity amidst the summer, which has made life more miserable in several states.

According to a report by IANS, electricity service in 80 per cent areas of Bhubaneswar is likely to be restored by May 10 while the entire city may get electricity by May 12.

Reports inform that the cyclonic storm has damaged numerous electricity towers, four 220 KV grids at Chandaka, Bidanasi, Samagra and Mendhasala, and four 132 KV grids at Puri, Nimapada, Mancheswar and Ransinghpur.

Restoration work is on full swing in affected areas with additional skilled manpower being drawn from other states.
